About
Hello, my name is Danny Schimtz.
Where to start? How about at the beginning? I grew up in Miliwaukee Wisconsin and eventually my
family moved north to Eau Claire Wisconsin. The change from the city life to country was not easy at the
start. I went from being a popular kid, to the new “city” kid in the country. I ended up in a lot of fights as I
didn’t take to being bullied. Eventually I moved schools and learning to ride horses. When I was around fourteen years old I started training horses. I had a beautiful black and white paint and thoroughbred horse.
Around that same time, as I finished eigth grade, I went to work full time for my dad’s bussinness.
He had started a bussiness building portable backyard storage sheds, and thus started the start of my career
in construction. For several years I worked for my dad until I was around eighteen years old and our family
collectively decided to move to north Idaho.
When our family made the move to Idaho, I started working on a construction crew building houses.
I started off as a labourer and within a couple of years I was running my bosses second crew as a foreman.
These were good days for me. I made really good money for the age I was and was into several sports. I snowboarded in the winter and in the summer, I had a wakeboard boat that I spent all of my free time on. I took
friends and family out all the time and taught anyone that wanted to learn how to wakeboard or wakesurf. So
for several years I did construction, working hard and playing hard, until the economy crashed and we ran
out of work.
I took any construction jobs that I could find to stay afloat, but eventually, even that wasn’t enough.
I somehow got hired on at a bank call center, only knowing where the power button on the computer was.
Fortunately for me the lady that sat next to me helped me out as I bluffed my way through the training course
and I landed on the floor. Within a few months I got recruited into another department in a supervisory role
and I became the person that everyone dreaded to speak to when they called in to close their credit card accounts. I had one of the highest average call times, but held the record for the best retention rate on the most
saved accounts. This got me thinking that I could possibly be great at a sales job.
Over the next several years I spent time in different sales jobs and eventually started selling Harley
Davidson motorcycles. It was more laid back then most sales jobs, but could have some long hours. I was with
them for a couple of years until they had to lay people off for the winter. It was around this time that I started
messing around with video editing. My friends would give me recordings of video gameplay and I would edit
it down for them. I can’t stress enough how much I loved this, but as they say, all good things come to an end.
I eventually ended up going back to construction and little did I know at the time, but this was the
beginning of the end for that career. A couple of years after starting construction again I had a workplace accident. As I stepped down from a ladder, my heel got caught on a pipe and I fell backwards, my back slamming
into a stud in the wall. Over the next couple of days the pain just got worse until I finally had to see a doctor.
But let’s not dwell here too long. Let’s fastforward over the next six to seven years and the surgeries and physical therapy that I had to go through. I kind of bacame a bit of a hermit during that time. Walking was hard
enough, let alone the seasonal sports that I had previously preoccupied my time with. There was so much that
I could no longer do. It was a hard transition for me having been so active to come to a complete standstill. I
was afraid to even go to the gym for fear of hurting my back. But wounds start to heal with time. Even though
I still struggle with walking long distances, I can go further than I could during my surgeries
Knowing I needed to go back to work, I started looking for career ideas and decided, why not do the
one thing that I loved and enjoyed doing so much? So last summer I started to finish up my general requirement classes at N.I.C. and now I am full time attending their graphic and web design and video editing
program to receive my associates degree and start a full time career editing videos. Since starting the program
I have learned programs I had never used before and have found a creative side of me that I didn’t even know
existed.
Since starting back up in school I’ve created a business called Dimiour Designs. Odd name I know, but
I’ve always been fascinated with old Greek mythology and for one of our class projects where we had to create
a poster in the Art Nouveau style. In this I created a lady riding a bicycle, riding the waves, brandishing a
trident. Loving water sports this kind of spoke to me as well as looking at ancient Greek architecture when
I was doing another assignment. These two things were pretty much the deciding factor for the name of
my company. The Greek word “Dimiourgikos” translates over as creative. But let’s be honest, that’s a bit of a
mouthful, so I shortened it down to Dimiour. Dimiour Designs- Creative Designs. I liked it.
What can you expect from Dimiour Designs? A creative drive. A love for what I do. Couple this with
my experience working with people, helping them problem solve from issues with their credit cards to what
they wanted their motorcycle buillt out to be, I understand the need for perfection. I’ve always had a great
report with my customers and worked hard to make sure that they were happy with the end product. I plan
to bring this into my new business as well. I’m looking forward to who I will meet on this new chapter in my
life and excited to have a working relationship with them. From someone that wants something done for them
even if its just a personal project, to helping someone as they start their own journey, to established businesess that are looking for a fresh perspective. Whether you’re looking for a logo or to have video edited down, I
look forward to when we finally meet!
Thank you for listening to my rantings.
