Independent Study "Photoshop" Brutalism Poster

Student: Emily Gankema

This was part of my independent study for Photoshop in Spring 2025. I thought of designing a poster through with a theme of Liminal Space and Brutalism as an experiment because I've seen where graphic designers create flyers/posters with style called Brutalism. A raw, unpolished, and anti-corporate style that emerged during the 2010s. Where Liminal Space evokes the feelings of unease, nostalgia, and surrealism that depicts the transitional/empty places.

About the Designer

Emily Gankema

Hello! My name is Emily Gankema. I'm a graphic designer, an artist/illustrator at North Idaho College, graduating in May 2026. I mainly do in my spare time is draw in my sketchbook "freehand" mostly draw characters or learn how to draw expressions, or learn different drawing techniques. I also worked on the marketing brand for the American Indian Student Advisory at the college as part of my internship/work-study. I'm glad that was able to be part of this program since it helped me to improve my skills with the Adobe software.
